Performance improvement. The newer telnet (a few revisions ago) uses the new RetroNET TCP commands. So the incoming data is buffered in the IA rather than the NABU. I can increase the "baud rate" in the telnet options negotiation. So now the remote host (if supporting telnet options) will transmit faster. Generally, a telnet.d daemon will "emulate" a baud rate based on the telnet option, such as linux hosts.
